Short version

• Your books stay on your device. Maryanne does not upload them.
• Your audio is generated and played locally.
• The only things we collect are: a pseudonymous user ID, product-usage events, the model you have selected, and crash diagnostics.
• No advertising. No third-party tracking pixels.

AI narration and local processing

Maryanne uses downloaded AI voice models on your device to generate narration. Your imported book files, book text, and generated narration stay on your device. We do not upload, retain, or use them to train AI models. Maryanne labels narration as AI-generated and embeds machine-readable provenance metadata in its generated WAV playback audio. This metadata contains no book text, book title, account ID, or other personal data.

Usage telemetry

We collect pseudonymous product-usage events to improve Maryanne. These can include app navigation, playback state, voice-model download actions, public-domain catalog download actions, settings actions, and error categories. We do not send locally imported book contents or generated narration as analytics data. Public-domain catalog titles may be included with their download analytics.

What Maryanne stores on your device

• The book files you import (EPUB or PDF) and a per-book progress bookmark (chapter, sentence, position).
• The voice model you have downloaded.
• An anonymous account ID, so your progress, voice, and Plus entitlement survive reinstalls on the same device.
• Crash reports and anonymized usage telemetry (see below).

What Maryanne sends to our server

• An anonymous sign-in: Returns a stable user ID and session token.
• Entitlement verification: Used to unlock the Plus offline voices after purchase.
• Optional: a RevenueCat purchase event delivered by the App Store or Play Store, which our server then reads to confirm the entitlement.
• Crash reports and unhandled exceptions via Sentry, which may include the device model, OS version, app version, and the pseudonymous user ID. Raw book text is never attached.

What Maryanne does not do

• We never upload your book files or their text to our server.
• We never upload the generated speech audio.
• We never sell or share any data with advertisers.
• We never require an email address to use the app.

Account deletion

In Settings → Account there is a Delete account action. Tapping it signs you out and asks our server to delete the anonymous user record, the entitlement record, and any cached verification data. The local progress and downloaded voice models are removed from the device as part of the same flow. The deletion is queued and may take a few minutes to propagate through Sentry and our backups.

Children

Maryanne is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a way that affects the data we collect, we will update the date at the top of this page and surface a notice inside the app on next launch.
